Looking at all the fun perches, I am wondering what wood would be safe for making perches. I have regular Maple trees as well as Manitoba Maples in my yard. The Manitoba Maples seem brittle and would make quickly destoyed toys, but the real Maple has a bit harder wood. As well the Manitoba's seem to have a more rough bark and seems to have more of a "lichen" type thing on parts of it. I wonder if these trees would be ok, if I peeled the bark of the branches.

I have a pair of Lovebirds and they are chewers to the extreme, and of couse perches are a very fun toy. My Alexandrine has hardwood perches that came with his cage, but he has gone right through them, which was a surprise to me since the Blue and Gold's never gotten through a perch yet. So in order to preserve the "good" perches I want to give as many destructable natural ones I can. I would also like to make toys out of the branches...

Please let me know if you think these trees would be safe :-)
