Daisy Update

Miss Daisy, a Moluccan Cockatoo, has been with us for several months now. When she first arrived her feathers had been self-groomed to little stubs - Daisy's way of handling stress.

Now, her feathers tell of a much calmer and more secure bird. In fact, she's looking so healthy, it's harder for me to find her each time I visit. I look for that cheerful disposition, the little curl in her tail feathers, and a characteristic "chatter" she does while I'm grooming her, saying I'm part of her flock -- an offer to groom me in return. Grooming is part of a social relationship for parrots as well as a health issue.

What a beautiful Too. I am so glad she is feathering out and feeling more secure.

I am grateful for this video clip of Daisy. She looks happy and her feathers are much improved since her previous dance video.

"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."

– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."

– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)
