Grant Corriveau is a special volunteer who devotes much of his time to helping our parrot friends. Grant has a wonderful blog with anecdotes, photos and videos of his experiences as a volunteer at the World Parrot Refuge. Share his adventures, and learn why it's such a heart-warming and emotional experience to be part of giving these amazing parrots a "home for life". Visit Grant's site here - West Coast Chronicles.
Thanks for all you do, Grant!
The cost of caring for a healthy bird at the Refuge is $500 per year. This ensures access to things we often take for granted - a varied and healthy diet, clean shelter, warmth, light, safety, and skilled medical care when needed. As you can appreciate, the cost of caring for one of our many special needs residents, who often have large medical expenses, is much more.
By virtually adopting a parrot, you help us to provide him or her with a happy, healthy "Home for Life". We understand there's only so much people can give. Every contribution - no matter how small - helps, and is tax deductible. Regular contributions help with ongoing costs. By clicking on the "Donate Now" button on the top right corner of any page, you can set up a one-time or regular donation using the secure website of CanadaHelps.org, or choose other donation options. Thank you.
Through virtual adoption, you can help a parrot who has known years of misunderstanding, neglect or abuse, or perhaps one who was well loved but could no longer be cared for by a previous owner due to life changes. We encourage you to share the joy of supporting a bird in need with your friends, co-workers, school or community group, or another Virtual Adoption sponsor. We will feature parrots here until his or her annual needs are supported by one or more sponsors.
Each sponsor that contributes $250 or more per year in financial support will receive a photograph and updates on the health and welfare of each sponsored parrot. Unless you prefer to remain an anonymous donor, your name or that of your group or company will be listed on the sponsor board at the Refuge and on the Virtual Adoption sponsor page on this website.

We can always use donations of towels for the hospital, heating pads and sheets for special needs residents (some parrots can no longer perch). Medical supplies and equipment are also very much welcomed - please contact us for further details.

Our flocks happily go through a continuous supply of colourful toys made by our volunteers, constructed with natural wood, old childrens' toys including Fisher Price and Playskool toys and especially, love. The parrots love just about anything, from rattles to mobiles to noisy battery-operated toys!

The daily fresh food table is made up of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, with at least five different items offered every day. We select from yams, spinach, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, peas, corn, carrots, beans, hot peppers, sweet peppers, apples, oranges, bananas, blueberries, peaches, cherries, blackberries, plums and apricots. The menu also occasionally offers pasta, scrambled eggs, cheese, mashed potatoes and a special homemade birdy banana bread.

So many people have contributed to helping us make the World Parrot Refuge a true "Home for Life" for so many parrots - whether it be by donating time, money, medical equipment and other supplies, food, toys and more. We'd like to say a heartfelt thank you. We can't do this alone and rely on donations to keep the Refuge going. We hope that we can look forward to your support in years to come - even promoting our needs by sharing this website with other concerned people is a huge help. Thank you!
"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."
– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)
"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."
– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
