These are tough times for so many people, and at these times when money is scarce, we have to find creative ways to support our feathered friends.
One of our supporters, Antonia, has written the most wonderful childrens' book to help support the refuge - a book I know will appeal to the child in us all. Right now we are in search of an illustrator and a publisher for this delightful tale! The story is about the adventures of an African Grey, and his search for freedom. Although he has a loving family, our parrot protagonist wants so much more in life, as parrots in captivity often do, and sets out to find it!
If you, or someone you know, have the skills to illustrate such a story, and are able to offer them in return for a share of the profits - or if you know someone in the industry who might be interested in publishing such a book - please contact us! I would be happy to put people in touch with Antonia and Wendy directly to talk more about the project!
I also want to take this opportunity to put out a call to anyone who might have a fairly recent computer they could donate to the Refuge. Wendy has had the same laptop for many years now and it's really starting to show its age after years of being pooped on! I know she could use the buzz of having a newer computer to work on. So, if you have either a tower with monitor or a laptop that you could donate to her, that would really help with her work, and in the case of the laptop, getting out in the community to give presentations and raise awareness. Please feel free to message me if you can help out in this regard.
We are always looking for creative ways to help the Refuge. If you have ideas, and better yet, the time and energy to help realize them, we would love to hear from you! Please use the Contact Us page to get in touch with us.
With healing wishes for our feathered friends,
Jane (volunteer webmaster)

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."
– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)
"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."
– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
