In this special campaign spearheaded by supporters Tina, Andrew, & Elvis the Budgie, we are looking for 2500 wonderful people to commit to a regular monthly donation of $10 each, to help provide a strong funding base to carry the work of the World Parrot Refuge forward.
We realize that making a commitment for the full or half virtual adoption of a parrot can be difficult in these trying times - so Tina, Andrew, and Elvis came up with the idea of the For The Birds! Campaign. If you can spare $10 a month, you can become part of this important campaign to establish long-term funding for our parrot friends.
Click on the "Donate Now" button in the top right-hand corner of any page on the website, and select the "For The Birds! Campaign" as your fund designation. In this way, we can keep track of progress toward our goal of 2500 permanent monthly $10 supporters! Remember that your donation is tax-deductible, and CanadaHelps (the organization that securely processes our online credit card donations) will issue you with a tax receipt.
Click here to download a high resolution version of the poster in PDF format to put up (if permitted) at your school, workplace, or meeting place, to bring the work of the World Parrot Refuge to the attention of your friends and colleagues.
Thank you for your support to make this campaign a success! We will bring you further news on the For The Birds! Campaign as it progresses.
The beautiful campaign poster was made by Tina, Andrew, and Elvis. Thank you for taking the initiative to lead such an inspiring campaign on behalf of our parrot family!

Calling all current and prospective volunteers! One of our special volunteers, Sandy, is coordinating with our volunteer crew, and would love to meet you and find out what everyone is doing, or would like to do! She would like to hold a meeting of volunteers before the end of the month!
Sandy wants to put together a fund-raiser garage sale. If you remember the very successful one put together last year by Larry, Ann, Doug, Val, and friends, there's nothing a dedicated group of volunteers can't do. Our first beautiful outdoor flight is the the fruits of their labours.
If you would like to connect with Sandy and the other volunteers, please contact me - Jane, the webmaster - using the form on our Contact Us page, and I'll put you in touch with Sandy directly!
Thank you!
We need dedicated volunteers to help us go forward to establish a sustainable funding base for our parrot family. In particular we need:
Virtual Adoptions: We need someone who can come to the Refuge to take and print photos of the parrots - we have a camera and printer for this purpose - and then send the photo with an adoption certificate to our wonderful sponsors who support the parrots. The picture can also be emailed to you with the information for our Hall of Love.
Card Writing: We need someone willing to write cards - which we will provide - to thank the wonderful people who make donations. Hand written cards are so much more personal. We have stamps too!
Membership: A special thank-you to our new volunteer angel, who has stepped up to help with memberships!
We also need and would appreciate helpers in the following areas:
Anyone who feels they could dedicate some time to volunteering would be most welcome. Please read our Volunteer page for more background, and e-mail or call Wendy at the Refuge (see the Contact Us page for details) if you'd like to help. Thank you!
We have a need for the following items, and would be most grateful for donations of items that people no longer use and could gift to our parrot family:
Thank you.
These are tough times for so many people, and at these times when money is scarce, we have to find creative ways to support our feathered friends.
One of our supporters, Antonia, has written the most wonderful childrens' book to help support the refuge - a book I know will appeal to the child in us all. Right now we are in search of an illustrator and a publisher for this delightful tale! The story is about the adventures of an African Grey, and his search for freedom. Although he has a loving family, our parrot protagonist wants so much more in life, as parrots in captivity often do, and sets out to find it!
If you, or someone you know, have the skills to illustrate such a story, and are able to offer them in return for a share of the profits - or if you know someone in the industry who might be interested in publishing such a book - please contact us! I would be happy to put people in touch with Antonia and Wendy directly to talk more about the project!
I also want to take this opportunity to put out a call to anyone who might have a fairly recent computer they could donate to the Refuge. Wendy has had the same laptop for many years now and it's really starting to show its age after years of being pooped on! I know she could use the buzz of having a newer computer to work on. So, if you have either a tower with monitor or a laptop that you could donate to her, that would really help with her work, and in the case of the laptop, getting out in the community to give presentations and raise awareness. Please feel free to message me if you can help out in this regard.
We are always looking for creative ways to help the Refuge. If you have ideas, and better yet, the time and energy to help realize them, we would love to hear from you! Please use the Contact Us page to get in touch with us.
With healing wishes for our feathered friends,
Jane (volunteer webmaster)

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."
– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)
"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."
– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
