Stephanie Burleigh sent this note and some photos from June's yard sale, which was another great success thanks to the efforts of many staff and volunteer members:

I just wanted to let you know that we raised $1,071.00 at the garage sale. Thank you for everything, Stephanie.

I would like some more information on the yard sale planned for the end fo July 2009, which I saw advertised on Vancouver Island News tonight.
My husband asked me what I want for my birthday (July 29th), and now I know- to donate stuff to the World Parrot Yard Sale!
However, we would probably be taking the ferry from Vancouver, after work on a Friday night; so I need to know the following details: the date of the yard sale, the time it starts and ends, the kind of stuff that you want us to bring with us (clothing, etc.),and whether or not we have to bring the items to the site the day before, or the day of the sale(?).
Please let me know ASAP, so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.
Also, do you know of a cheap, yet clean place that we can stay in the area?
Thanks a lot. Hope to see you there,
Adele.

Hello, Adele

Well aren't you just a thoughtful woman. The parrots will be grateful.
The date of the Yard Sale is on Saturday, July 25th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, we are taking almost everything, although we are slightly hesitant on clothing, since we found it hard to sell, but bring it anyways whatever doesn't sell at even our future Yard Sales will make it's way to the Sally Ann.

You can bring stuff at any time up until the day of, or even after. We plan to have a Yard Sale every month for at least the summer.

There is a fairly decent priced Travelodge in Parksville, which is located on the Island Highway close to the famous Paradise Mini-Golf, which is about a 10 minute drive from The World Parrot Refuge in Coombs.

Very grateful for your time and efforts in advance,

We shall see you there,
Sasha - Staff and Volunteer worker

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."

– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)

"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."

– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
