Ok, that heart-tugging music is killing me ! How cool to see flying parrots ! Can you walk in the cage and have them come to you ? Also, are you on Twitter ? I would love to follow you and have you follow me so I can spread the word.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words of encouragement. We can walk into the Macaw cages, but we aren't necessarily "welcome" by the residents. We do encourage them to grow back their wild parrot instincts as much as possible.

The cleaners are in the big cages each day. Sometimes a bird will take to a person and want to come in for a closer visit. The Macaws are pretty gentle, but sometimes in the Amazon and Cockatoo enclosures, the cleaners have to watch out for a couple of the "wilder" birds defending their territory. (Check out the "Clean! Clean! Clean!" video for an example.)

We don't Twitter, but we do have a facebook "cause" page.

Thanks again

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."

– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)

"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."

– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
