Mr Beaky, the Bare-Eyed Cockatoo

Mr Beaky is now partially sponsored thanks to the generosity of Sheila Cantwell - thank you so much!

Hey Folks! Nice to meet you! I'm Mr Beaky. In case you've never seen such a good-looking guy like me before, I'm a Bare-Eyed Cockatoo.

I've come a long way from the old days, when I was moving from home to home and cage to cage! I really got lucky and ended up at the Refuge. That's all thanks to my last human flock - she was a great lady who gave me lots of freedom. She was so good to me! She really understood what I needed - lots of space and friends to have fun with! She realized she couldn't give me that at her place so she brought me here.

I'm a crazy, fun-loving guy. I like to stick my beak into everything. I also like to roll around on the ground. It's fun! Wheeee!

Oops, yeah, so I have lots of fun these days with my new flock. It would be great if someone would be a pal and help by Virtually Adopting me. Then there'll be no worries about my care and all my bills will be paid at my new place. I can focus on doing what I like doing the best! Having fun!

I hope you come visit me sometime!

See you all later!

Dear Wendy, Stephanie,and everyone else,
Thank you! I had the most amazing volunteer experience ever! Thank you for allowing me this incredible experience! As you remember, Mr. Beaky and I developed an ... interesting relationship! However, he gave me the most love (and "love bites" for that matter) and he will forever be my favorite. (Yukon, Peekaboo, & the cute Rosella in the little parrot house are tied for 2nd) Thank you for everything.
Love,
Shannon

PS

Give my love to "Beaky!"

"The World Parrot Refuge is a true sanctuary where parrots live out their lives in a loving, spacious and happy environment under the guidance of extraordinarily caring people. The many visitors destined to pass through the refuge will come to understand that parrots are not toys or trophies, but beings with needs and emotions as real as our own."

– Rosemary Low (author of more than 30 books on parrots)

"This is, in a word, a great place and these miraculous creatures deserve no less, but few places can deliver it this well. It is, indeed, 'world class'."

– Stewart Metz (author and Director of the Indonesian Parrot Project), after his visit at the Grand Opening of the Refuge on August 13, 2005.
